Planning a Family Vacation
When
you plan a family vacation, you have to consider everyone's wishes and expectations
to ensure you all have a wonderful time. With good planning, you will get the
chance to unwind and enjoy your holiday and your kids will come home with some
cherished memories. If you're looking for ease of planning, then certainly the
easiest would be an all
inclusive family vacation... where virtually all the planning is done for
you. Here are a few guidelines to help you with the preparation process.
Think about a short trip. A short trip has a few advantages over a long one. First, it's easier to keep your children entertained for a few days than a couple of weeks. This way they won't grumble about getting bored and they will have a great time. Secondly, getting back to work following an exhilarating and exhausting trip can be especially unpleasant; a short family vacation will let you to relax at home for a few days prior to getting back to work.
Incorporate
the entire family in the planning. A family vacation will be more stimulating
if you all plan it collectively. For example, do you want a family
beach vacation? Some family members might... some might not. Do you want
to stay at a family
vacation resort? Some family members might... some might not. If you incorpororate
the whole family, you will learn about everyone's wants and desires and you
can share your own expectations of the forthcoming trip. In addition, making
your children feel included will increase the chances of them to enjoying the
holiday too. If you have a school-aged child, you might also let him search
some information about the places you're visiting over the Internet. This way
he/she will be still more thrilled about the approaching vacation.
Plan
a good travel. Usually the car trip is the most taxing part for a family vacation.
Keep your expectations realistic: a long car trip may be too much for your small
child to handle. To prevent your kids for complaining all the time, you may
decide to travel during their nap time to keep them sleeping for most of the
journey. Taking along some fun games is also a valuable tip for keeping a child
entertained for the duration of the car ride. If your child is very small, pack
one diaper for each hour of travel and change him/her right before you leave.

Think about your own needs for your family
vacation getaway. A family vacation is not just for your children, but also
for you. Make sure you know what your needs and expectations are. If you want
to get some time to relax, don't plan a car trip to a dozen national monuments.
When you rent a vacation home, ensure you select one with all the needed amenities
so that you won't have too much work to do. For instance, renting a house with
a dishwasher will prevent you from spending an hour washing the dishes after
each meal.
We
all want the perfect
family vacation but try and keep in mind that a great family vacation just
might do :) Planning a great family vacation does not need to be complicated.
If you understand each other's wants and expectations, it's really pretty easy.
If your children are old enough, make sure you clarify with them what the rules
are. Plan on being more flexible than usual about things like bedtime and pocket
money.
